John Fioroni, one of our 2019 Small Grant winners, is organizing a caving expedition to Morca Cave in Turkey this August and is inviting grotto members to join. The expedition will last the full month of August, with a minimum two-week commitment required. Morca has been surveyed to 1,270 meters deep with leads left to explore and countless other caves in the area that need surveying.
The expedition is a collaboration between The Cave Exploration Society Inc. and ASPEG, a Turkish caving club. Participants will need to be in excellent physical shape, comfortable with SRT and rebelays, and ready for both sherpa work (carrying supplies to deep camps at 550m and 1,100m) and exploration of smaller caves nearby. The cost is roughly $10-15 per day, covering food and expenses at camp. If you’re interested, reach out to John directly at John@CaveExploration.org. He’s also put together a teaser video showing what the expedition looks like.
