Submit a trip report

Short is fine. A date, a cave and a couple of photos is a real contribution — the archive is full of two-line reports that turned out to matter years later.

Members: sign in first and this report goes in under your name. An officer reviews every report before it appears, usually within a few days.

Not a member yet? Join the grotto — $12 a year, and it gets you the cave catalogue, the member map, the newsletter archive and every trip report back to 2011. You can still send us this one; an officer will read it first.

Photos

Every photo adds to the record of this cave: how it looked this season, what's changed, what lives there. Add the lot, blurry ones included. They start uploading the moment you pick them, so you can keep writing while they go. Tap the × on any you'd rather leave out.

Worth a photo: formations, and anything broken or new since last time · survey stations and the sketchbook page · bats and other critters · water, drips and high-water marks · squeezes, climbs and rigging · your crew.

With bats: no flash where bats are visible, and no photos of hibernating bats (October to May). And skip anything that shows where a cave is: signs, trailheads, map screens, GPS readouts.

Your location stays private. Phones write GPS coordinates into photo files. We strip that out of every upload before storing it, so photographing a cave entrance never publishes where it is.

Bats — optional, and the most useful thing you can record

Photographing them? No flash where bats are visible, and no photos of hibernating bats (October to May).
