Most NSS cavers can be better appreciated with a dead cow story to tell. I had mine in 1960’s with the San Francisco Bay Chapter. Introducing me to Crystal Palace Cave. On the hike out we encountered a collapsed mine entry. It issued a stream of cold brown water. Some said it was tasty. Most just laid in it to cool their overheated condition. I and two other young cavers climbed up the slope to see some rusty machinery. Yup. Found another portion of mine collapse. With a dead cow down in the water.
