Beneath the Forest, Spring 2019

I am very pleased to present our 21st issue of Beneath the Forest. The attached Spring 2019 issue begins the second decade of the U.S. Forest Service National Cave and Karst Program’s newsletter.

This issue’s feature article summarizes best practices in show caves management by Jean-Pierre Bartholeyns, International Union of Speleology. These practices are relevant to cave resource management of all kinds. The USFS National Caves and Karst program is working to schedule regular calls and /or webinars regarding show cave management. If you are interested in participating and learning more about show cave management, please let me know.

For those of you interested in checking out previous issues, they are available here:  http://digital.lib.usf.edu/SFS0050943/00001

The submission deadline for our fall issue is October 1, 2019, and the newsletter will be out in November of 2019 – please think of cave and karst work happening on your forest and grassland, and plan to share. Look for more features and content coming in the fall!

Many thanks to all who submitted material for this issue, and especially to the author for our feature article.

Thanks,

Dan Seifert
